Hey can you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? How many of you became that? If you did... that is so cool and I am totally jealous.
Did that dream or goal or thing change for you over the years? If it did, did you wind up becoming the new thing that you wanted to be?
I think everything is possible. I am a writer so by my very nature I dream and have a very rich inner life. I want to believe that nothing is beyond our reach, that nothing is impossible.

If we're talking fitness here people, I'd suggest we all get on our mats!

Wanted to be an archaeologist from about 8 yrs old onward, then at 17 also wanted to be a recording engineer in the music industry ;) ...I am neither! I am a university drop out majoring in international development studies, I am also a certified optometric assistant but I work at an Alia Tanjay store, retail sales!... I have had every job under the sun including lettuce cutter in Australia, tree planter, HMV associate, jack of all trades master of none!

Tammy, You sounds as though you have lead a very full life. When I saw Indiana Jones for the first time I wanted to be an archeologist too. I wonder if he had any sway over your decision.
DeleteYou definitely have something big in common with Indie, you're leading a life of adventure. Doing all these different things, trying on many different hats. Very cool.
No joke, that is EXACTLY it! I used to watch Indiana Jones movies ALL the time and that is why I wanted to be an archeologist!!!
Deletealso, my influences for wanting to travel the world were Fragle ocks uncle travelling Matt(was that his name?) and the movie The Chipmunk adventures

Ha ha, Tammy I knew it! I love your adventurous spirit.
DeleteHi Shan - I certainly am not what I thought I would be. I'm an attorney, which is kind of funny since I'm the most shy person in the world and also very non-confrontational. :) I have struggled for years with what to do professionally - I often seek some fulfillment that I'm not getting, but I wonder if that would be true no matter what I did for a living. I think a rich inner life (like you have) is probably where we have to go to get most of our fulfillment.
ReplyDeleteI've come to be grateful for my choices - because they'd made me who I am and all that. Plus I am married to the most incredible man - also a lawyer - and he works like a madman I would not understand or appreciate his sacrifices, and the long hours and the constant business travel if I were not a lawyer myself - in fact his first marriage failed because his wife did not understand.
Anyway, rambling - but I think that "what to be when we grow up" is mostly about who we are inside - and how much we grow. And you are right on track with that.

Josie, I love the irony of you being a shy lawyer. I bet that it makes you an even better lawyer because you're a deep thinker. Introverts generally are.
DeleteThe fact that you have an understanding and an appreciation for what your beloved does because you do the same is fantastic.
I agree with you about who we are on the inside, and thank you for sharing that.
Big hugs.
